Best season
- Peak surf: Sep–Nov (Habagat tail/early Amihan).
- Good window: Aug–Feb; Mar–May smaller longboard days and glassy mornings.
Main routes
Cloud 9 (Right‑hand reef)
StrenuousHeavy, hollow right that breaks over sharp reef; advanced only when solid. Best with NE winds and mid‑to‑high tide.
- Reef booties recommended; wait your turn and respect locals.
- Watch for strong currents and shallow sections on low tide.
Jacking Horse
ModerateUser‑friendlier reef near Cloud 9 with workable walls; can get crowded in season; mid tide is friendlier.
- Hire a local guide for first sessions; mind the inside reef at low tide.
Quicksilver / Daku / Secret spots
ModerateVariety of reef peaks by boat or along the Catangnan stretch; check tides, winds, and hire a guide/boat as needed.
- Start early for glassy conditions; bring cash for boat fuel/fees.
Getting there
- Fly to IAO (Sayak Airport) then 30–45 min transfer to General Luna/Cloud 9.
- Motorbikes and e‑trikes for local transport; boats for island runs.
Where to stay
- General Luna (GL) for dining, nightlife, and quick access to many breaks.
- Cloud 9/Catangnan for walkable sessions and surf‑focused stays.
- Pacifico/Burgos (north) for quieter waves on certain swells.
Plan and protect
Weather and access policies change. Confirm permits with local offices and hire accredited guides. Pack out trash and respect community rules and protected areas.
